With reference to the coal mortgaged to the

National Bank, i beg to inform you that I have duly communicated

a copy of your letter to the Hongkong Government. As regards the

apparent discrepancy of $80,000 and $200,000, I beg to refer Your

Excellency to my letter of October 27th., in which you will find

a full explanation. The sum of $80,000 having been quoted by

mistake by Shewan, fomes and Company, the Bank's local agents,

instead of $200,000 which is the correct accumi.
